To cultivate a more resilient food system in Dane County, we must build a cooperative relationship with leaders at all levels of government and hold our public officials accountable to ensure they will be a part of the solution.

We do this by coordinating members of the Collective to organize and act together to achieve policy outcomes that make a positive impact on our members’ businesses, teams and communities.

Advocacy

COVID-19 hit independent restaurants hard. Supply chain disruptions made business difficult for many, and, sadly, impossible for some. To overcome similar challenges in the future, The Dane County Food Collective’s members have created a buying cooperative to ensure consistent access to affordable, quality products through collective bargaining and resource pooling.

Buying Cooperative

The Dane County Food Collective is committed to a transparent and open dialogue with the larger Dane County community. As part of this commitment, The Collective provides community access to all of its internal organizational communications. We create space for the community to engage in collective action campaigns and events. We acknowledge that equity and inclusion take consistent commitment to work to amplify voices across our community, we work to be a force of change.

Communications

Unfortunately, many of the workers who keep our local food system running don’t have access to quality healthcare. To tackle this challenge, The Dane County Food Collective aims to collectively bargain with healthcare and insurance providers to bring affordable, quality healthcare to all food system workers in the area. We are committed to educating our members on the options for access.

Insurance Pool

The Dane County Food Collective recognizes that overall health is about both mental and physical wellbeing. The Collective seeks to address mental health challenges by creating a peer advocacy network, in addition to providing training on mental health to develop tools to tackle mental health issues within the food system and create an open dialogue and common language for mental health.

The Collective strives to establish a culture of physical well-being and works with local wellness professionals and businesses to develop industry-wide access to individual and group wellness and fitness classes.
